My visit to the Arc show 2012

What a lovely day today, the perfect day to get out of the studio, walk outside and enjoy the lovely sunshine! It was a double pleasure to go to the Arc show, really!
The Arc show and its lighting, bling bling technology... I love going there and look for the latest models. So of course this year I wanted to see what was new with the LED. The eternal question being: when are we going to be able to specify LED lighting in a living room?
Well, this day might belong to the present now.... Wait and see what is new!
OK, let start with "Inspired by Design" (www.inspired-by-design.co.uk) who were showing interesting lighting, including this lamp (show below) which can be equally used inside or outside and is rechargeable! It is such a great idea to be able to take a lamp outside (on the balcony or garden) for a summer party... but this has a cost, the lamp is quite dear I would say!
I liked also a lot their lovely fitting made out of glass. The bulbs were LEDs, which, I thought is a great use of LED in a living area, as the sharp white is hidden and soften by the glass.
More beautiful fitting that I could perfectly see in a stair case...
Here is another company that specialises in LED lighting EcoLed (http://www.ecoledlight.co.uk/search.asp). I had already met them at a previous show, and was happy to see their new products.
On the following photo is another example of a good use of LED inside the house as an accent lighting. This fitting creates a very nice pattern of light on a wall.
EcolEd has also some very cute wall light that can be used in a staircase. Really cute fittings!
Here is another interesting company, in the Crescent stand Nick Mailer Lighting (nickmailerlighting.co.uk) who create incredible fittings and also furniture with Swarovski crystals. It is simply beautiful (Apologies for my photos, which don't make any justice to the fittings...):
These two fittings are made with coloured crystals and are lit from above.
Here is a beautiful table with crystals... I know this is not lighting, but I wanted to show it anyway!

I really like this idea of having a lighting inside a cupboard that would be in the rail supporting the coat hangers... at the exact right place to allow you to see what is hanging there!
And to finish, PhotonStarLed Ltd (www.photonstarled.com) and their incredible LED recessed down lighters: Look at the following photo, one of the light is a LED and the other one is a halogen light.
We all know that LED are traditionally very sharp and white light that can give you the look of a ghost, and this is why it hasn't been used in living area very much yet. In the previous show you could see a great improvement in the LED colour... but here... which one do you think is the LED? I thought it was the right one, but I was wrong, the warmest lamp on the left is the LED! This sounds a very promising improvement of LED. The only remark I can make is that despite asking more than three times what was the price range for such a fitting, I couldn't get any answer... As designers we always work within a budget and knowing the cost of things is more than important!
Well, this was my visit to the Arc show this year. I hope you have found this little summary interesting.
